Using Placements for Dynamic and Bulk Publishing

To allow for bulk publishing of polls to all pages on your website, a specific category of pages, or simply a selection of pages, we introduced Placements, which act as dedicated placeholders where your polls will be shown. When your network is setup, we'll create a few default placements for you (end of content, sidebar, in content), however you may create as many additional placements as you'd like.

Creating Placements

To create additional placements, or to find a placement embed code, go to the Settings page and navigate to the Integration Settings tab. At the bottom of this page, you'll find a list of existing placements, along with link to add a new placement. When creating a placement, simply give it a name (usually where it will be located on your site), and adjust the settings to your liking.

After you've created your placement, click the "Copy code" link to copy the html embed code. Next, add this code into your website template in the location where you'd like your polls to render (this may require a developer). Once this step is done, you're ready to deploy polls to your placement.

Deploying Polls to Placements

  1. Edit a poll from the Polls page.
  2. Select the Deploy Poll tab.
  3. If deploying to a subdomain, select the domain for the site you are deploying the poll to.
  4. Deploy to a single page - Search for that page, then click the blue Deploy button.
  5. Deploy to a selection of pages - Select pages using the checkboxes to the left, then click the Deploy to Selected link at the top of the list.
  6. Deploy to a category - Click the Deploy to Category button and select a category or multiple categories from the list that pops up.
  7. Deploy to all Pages - Click the Deploy to All Pages link at the top of the list.
  8. After your selection is made, you’ll be presented with a modal asking you to select a placement. Select one or more placements where you’d like this poll to display on the pages you selected.
  9. When finished, click Deploy.

Troubleshooting

If you don’t see any urls, make sure you have the correct domain selected, and that the pages you are looking for have received traffic since the Sided codes were added. You may also try refreshing this page.

If you still don’t see a list of pages, visit a page on your site, right click, and select View Page Source. On the next page, type command + f on a Mac, or ctrl + f on a PC, then type “sided” in the search box and hit enter. You should see at least two instances of Sided on the page, one for the load.js script file, and another for the placement code.

If you don’t see both of these codes, please check to make sure you’ve added the codes correctly. If your site has caching, you make need to clear these caches for the codes to show up. You may also need to clear your browser cache.

If the Sided codes are showing up in the page source, but you still don’t see a list of urls in the Sided dashboard, please contact your account manager, or support@sided.co.

When you see the list of pages, you are now ready to deploy the poll.
